Title: Talking to Text: Building Empathy in the Reading and Writing Classroom
Program Description: Do you want to increase student engagement in daily writing? This presentation with hands-on learning recreates a National Writing Project C3WP experience from a seventh grade classroom. Co-teachers guide integrated activities from Thomas McCann’s Transforming Talk into Text, demonstrating how to build empathy in adolescent students, while simultaneously engaging strong young writers. Participants will leave with tools to strengthen student writers through role-talking, improvisational discourse, and examining the perspectives of others.
